Homero Espinosa began spinning records as DJ Huey
in the Bay Area in the early 90’s, quickly finding
a niche in the underground rave scene. He easily
rose to prominence as one of the few rave DJ’s
playing true underground house music in a scene
overwhelmed by trance and European pop-dance music.
Along the way, Homero forged a working
relationship with fellow Bay Area DJ and producer
Allen Craig, which resulted in Yerba Buena Discos,
a DJ and music-production cooperative. Their first
track, “Soul Power 03,” featured on Tony Hewitt’s
Detour Recordings label, scored myriad
playlistings and extensive European radio play.
His releases on their Yerba Buena Discos label
have become top sellers at Bay Area record stores
and have become crowd favorites in San Francisco’s
deep house underground.
Over the years, Homero’s records have continued to
make waves in the house underground. Along with
Yerba Buena Discos labelmate Cubase Dan, he
released a chugger with “Marissa’s ABC’s,”
followed by the even more slamming “This Or Jack”
and his first solo effort, “Can You Feel Me,”
which was licensed for release on Mark Farina’s
Ministry Of Sound mix cd. Homero is also making a
name for himself as a remixer du jour, remixing
tracks for Yerba Buena Discos (of course), as well
as Tango Recordings and Ringside to name a few.
Along with Cubase Dan, he maintains a studio in
San Francisco’s legendary Moulton Media facility,
where he has honed his engineering and production
skills and further developed his own distinct
sound, a deeper, more late-night groove than his
labelmates’. His DJ schedule remains hectic,
taking him from the Bay Area to places as far as
New York, Paris, and Spain.
